Outdoor festival

Here, now.”, the title of this sixth edition of the festival, aims to place time and space at the center of the reflection as the ultimate dimensions on which our experience is structured.

Here and now, a place and an established time. A unique, non-replicable moment that encompasses the different temporal planes: the past of the barracks, the present of artistic creation and the future regeneration of space; and a place that is not a simple container but a real content.

The former SMMEP (Stabilimento Militare Materiale Elettronico di Precisione) barracks in via Guido Reni, abandoned in the early nineties, become the instrument through which the festival sets in motion different experiential processes: the act of transforming the space, the perception of a transitory action, the interaction with the works themselves, the collective enjoyment of a regenerated place, the active participation of artists and classes during the Outdoor Camp workshops.

Being present in a given moment and experiencing space and time in the dialogue that is created between the bare architectural structures and the artistic works contained within them. Becoming aware of oneself by relating to space and time through transformation.

Outdoor itself is in constant movement. Through past editions it has become a medium of expressive and communicative forms in which different artistic experiences, new languages and creative styles have converged, which have increasingly attracted the interest of the public, becoming a point of reference at a national level for street art, urban art and new artistic expressions.

The choice of artists for this edition is based on the desire to trace a mapping of art as extensive as possible, starting from street art, which has always been the essence of the festival, to reach other artistic expressions. On the occasion of the festival, the numerous warehouses of the barracks are converted into Pavilions divided by nation in which the exhibition is divided.
The choral and interactive project of 2501, of Recipient, and The blind eye factory, the empty and abstract forms of 108, the chaotic saturation of space of Halo halo, the decontextualization of Filippo Minelli and the memory investigated by Lucamaleonte. The sacredness and impulsive gesture of Tilt and the reflection on the ephemeral and cyclical nature of urban art by Martin Whatson. The temporal flow in the Gif – iti of Insa and the thought on the isolation of the individual in urban contexts of Tinho.
The recovery of the objects found in the barracks and elevated to works of art by Alexandros Vasmoulakis, the spatial deconstruction and remodulation of Graphic surgery, the perspective deformation of Rub Kandy, the estrangement created by Penique Productions and the use of space to reflect on the events of No Idea.
And finally a project curated by the American photographer Jessica Stewart on the Roman scene with the research of the artists Alice Pasquini, Uno and Tommaso Garavini.

Here, now, also wants to be a reflection on the act of artistic creation and its fruition. The hic et nunc (here and now) of the work of art – which Walter Benjamin talks about in relation to the spatial and temporal uniqueness and unrepeatability that the work of art must possess to be defined as such – is in Outdoor the main element of investigation and in a provocative way it wants to highlight how these new expressions and artistic modalities possess these characteristics.
